Patrick O'Leary's garages ltd is recruiting a Motor Vehicle Technician for our premises at Newberry enterprise park, Kilvealaton West, Mallow, Ireland. The salary range starts from €34,000 (€13.62/hr) based on a 39-hour week. Salary may be more based on experience and will increase proportionately if additional hours are required.
This role is vital to our workshop, focusing on maintaining and repairing a wide range of vehicles, including cars and light goods vehicles. As a Motor Vehicle Technician, your daily activities will involve diagnosing mechanical and electrical issues, conducting safety and maintenance inspections, and executing repairs like clutch replacements, brake overhauls, and timing belt changes. You will be working in a fully equipped workshop environment, utilizing modern diagnostic tools, hand and power tools, and electronic testing equipment.
The work environment is dynamic and team-oriented, with a focus on safety and efficiency. You will be expected to adhere to all safety regulations and workshop protocols, keep the work area clean and organized, and maintain accurate records of repairs and inspections. Occasional travel for vehicle testing or supplier visits may be required. **Responsibilities:**
- Diagnose electrical, mechanical, and electronic faults in vehicles
- Carry out complete clutch and brake replacements, including overhauling disc and drum brakes
- Replace timing belts and chains on petrol and diesel engines
- Perform general vehicle servicing, including oil changes and fluid top-ups
- Conduct safety inspections and issue appropriate reports
- Test and repair vehicle electrics and circuit systems
- Maintain and calibrate diagnostic equipment
- Keep detailed service and repair logs
- Assist in workshop housekeeping and safety checks
- Ensure vehicles adhere to safety and environmental standards
- Support quality control in repairs and maintenance
- Communicate effectively with customers about repair requirements and timelines
**Key Requirements:**
- Valid car driving license (essential)
- Proven experience of 10-15 years as a motor mechanic/technician in the automotive trade
- Comprehensive knowledge of vehicle repairs for petrol and diesel engines
- Experience in clutch, brake, and transmission replacements
- Understanding of vehicle electronics, diagnostics, and circuit testing
- Ability to work independently and in a team
- Good command of English, both verbal and written
- Trade/Apprenticeship qualification or equivalent in auto repair
- Strong workshop and safety protocol adherence
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Willingness to work flexible hours as needed
**Additional Information:**
- The role is full-time with an employment period of 24 months.
