Why employers choose the Critical Skills route
The Critical Skills Employment Permit (CSEP) is designed for roles Ireland actively wants to fill — most of the Critical Skills Occupations List is technical, engineering, ICT and healthcare. It skips the Labour Market Needs Test, so it's usually faster to file than a General Employment Permit.
It also offers immediate family reunification and eligibility to apply for a Stamp 4 upgrade after 21 months of qualifying employment, subject to immigration conditions, which makes it a strong retention tool for senior hires.
The two salary routes
There are two ways to qualify: a role on the Critical Skills list with a relevant degree at the standard threshold, or the high-salary route that opens almost any eligible occupation. The current figures are in the table below.
