Classic HGV Restorations is recruiting a HGV Mechanic for our premises at Oulartard, Ferns, Co. Wexford, Ireland. The salary range starts from €34,000 (€13.72/hr) based on a 39-hour week. Salary may be more based on experience and will increase proportionately if additional hours are required.
Our company specializes in restoring and refurbishing classic heavy goods vehicles (HGVs). We are looking for a skilled, dedicated mechanic to join our team and help restore vintage trucks to their former glory. The role involves disassembling and reassembling heavy vehicles with great care, rebuilding engines, gearboxes, axles, and related systems, and conducting electrical and air brake repairs. The working environment is professional and well-equipped, with access to modern tools and machinery necessary for high-quality restorations.
Candidates will work in a workshop setting, using specialized diagnostic and repair equipment. Some travel to sites or clients may be required for parts collection or specialized tasks. Work may involve some early mornings, weekends, or overtime depending on project deadlines.
Training will be provided on company-specific procedures and safety standards. There is potential for career progression into supervisory or specialized technical roles.
**Responsibilities:**
- Disassemble and reassemble classic heavy vehicles with care, ensuring precision during each step.
- Rebuild engines, gearboxes, axles, and associated systems, adhering to manufacturer specifications.
- Conduct electrical system repairs and troubleshoot air brake systems.
- Maintain meticulous attention to detail during all aspects of restoration work.
- Handle and store restored parts with care, following safety and quality standards.
- Keep accurate records of work done, parts used, and hours worked.
- Conduct routine inspections and diagnostics to identify repair needs.
- Attend to minor welding or fabrication tasks if needed.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure projects are completed on time.
- Follow health and safety protocols and use safety equipment at all times.
- Assist in inventory management and procurement of parts.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of restoration processes.
**Key Requirements:**
- Experience in vehicle maintenance, especially in heavy vehicle or automotive restoration.
- Knowledge of engine rebuilding, electrical systems, and air brake components.
- Valid drivers license, ideally Class B.
- Strong manual dexterity, patience, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a team and follow technical instructions.
- Safe Pass certification (not specifically required but preferred).
- Familiarity with safety standards related to vehicle repair.
- Good physical condition for manual handling.
- Ability to work in a dynamic environment with tight deadlines.
- Preferably experience with classic or vintage vehicles.
- Basic computer skills for record-keeping.
