Hiring from the Philippines to Ireland: The Employer's Complete Guide

The Philippines is a major source of healthcare workers, hospitality staff and manufacturing operatives for Ireland. Filipino professionals bring excellent English, strong care culture, and a tradition of overseas work that means they adapt quickly to relocation. The Philippines-Ireland corridor is well-established and growing. This guide covers the specifics of hiring from the Philippines in 2026.

POEA / DMW Requirements

Critical Philippine-Side Requirement

Filipino workers cannot legally depart for overseas employment without clearance from the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), formerly POEA. This is a Philippine government requirement, not an Irish one.

The employer or the recruitment platform must be accredited with DMW or work through a DMW-accredited Philippine recruitment agency. Without this, the worker will be stopped at Manila airport.

Visa Processing

Philippines-Specific Notes

Filipino nationals require a D-visa for Ireland

Processing through VFS Manila: typically 4-6 weeks

NBI clearance (National Bureau of Investigation) required -- allow 2-3 weeks

DMW OEC (Overseas Employment Certificate) required before departure

Qualification Recognition

Filipino Qualifications

Nursing (BSN from CHED-accredited institutions) -- requires NMBI assessment. Strong pass rates for Filipino nurses.

TESDA trade certificates -- recognised as evidence of formal vocational training.
